At least 7,500 people paid a visit to a car show in Bury St Edmunds on Father’s Day.

At estimated 800 to 1,000 vehicles were display at Cars on the Green, including the Bury Motor Show, at Nowton Park yesterday.

The cars exhibited included everything from classic, retro and modified vehicles to brand new ones, and trophies were awarded for a range of categories, such as best car on show.

Compared to last year, the number of visitors had more than doubled.

Kelly Minday, of Bury Retro Car Club, which organises the event, said: “It’s definitely a family day out. It’s an amazing atmosphere and we have obviously got all the amusements for children and the trade stands. So much hard work goes into organising it.”

•Suffolk police last night said a steward had been injured during a collision in which the vehicle failed to stop at the scene. He suffered a suspected broken arm and was taken to hospital. Police are investigating the incident.
