A MUSICAL celebration showcasing the strength of talent among Suffolk’s schoolchildren is continuing apace.

All week youngsters from across the county have taken to the stage at the world famous Snape Maltings Concert Hall.

It is all part of the 26th annual Celebration of Suffolk Schools Music, which ends of Saturday. Pupils have been delighting audiences with their performances, which this year mark the centenary of composer Benjamin Britten, who was born in Lowestoft and lived in Aldeburgh.

Each day culminates with all the youngsters singing a medley of Britten’s Friday Afternoon Songs.

Yesterday’s performers included the primary schools of Melton, Witnesham, Ixworth, Nayland and The Willows in Ipswich, along with St Benedicts Catholic School and the Thomas Wolsey School in Ipswich.

Pupils to have already performed include those from the primary schools of Whitton in Ipswich, Aldeburgh, Bawdsey, Woodbridge and Edward VI Upper in Bury St Edmunds. Today’s children come from the primaries of Coldfair Green, Bramfield, Mellis and Murrayfield in Ipswich, along with Horringer Court Middle School, Stowmarket High and Priory School, Bury St Edmunds.

The celebration is run by Aldeburgh Music in conjunction with Suffolk County Council.
