Crowds turn out for annual fireworks spectacular
THOUSANDS of people wrapped up warm and headed to the Abbey Gardens in Bury St Edmunds for the annual fireworks display on Saturday night.
Organised by Bury St Edmunds Round Table, the event attracted about 6,000 people who watched the sky light up in flashes of pink, green, red, blue and gold in the picturesque setting of the historic gardens.
The band from Bury St Edmunds Sea Cadets played all the way through the gardens as they escorted the Mayor of St Edmundsbury to the stage for the countdown.
As well as the fireworks, there were funfair rides for children, food and drink stalls and the town’s radio station, RWSfm 103.3, supported the event with music and entertainment.
Justin Fletcher, chairman of Bury St Edmunds Round Table, said: “I think it went very well. Obviously with the weather last night [November 3] as it was that certainly helped the event.”
He added: “I think everyone was able to benefit from the fireworks in all their glory.”
He wanted to thank the 45 or so stewards who volunteered their time to support the event, including people from Bury Abbey Rotary Club and Bury Young Farmers.
Money raised from the event, which Bury St Edmunds Round Table has organised for more than 20 years, will go towards good causes.
