Heavy thundery showers have hit many parts of Suffolk today but the worse of the weather is now over.

Between 8-9am this morning temperatures peaked at about 20C (68F) but they fell when stormy weather arrived bringing heavy showers and lightning.

Forecaster for Weatherquest, Dan Holley, said the storms would linger in west Suffolk before clearing away.

He said: “The storms are continuing around Thetford, Bury St Edmunds and there’s one near Claire. But during the afternoon they will clear. Temperatures are about 18C but could rise to 20C with some sunny spells.

“There will be a cold front overnight with temperatures over the weekend between 22-24C. It will be dry with sunny spells but it could be quite breezy.

“The biggest chance of showers will be on Saturday afternoon but it will be nothing like today’s storms.”

Temperatures are expected to be above-average next week, up to 24C (75F).
