The edition of Who’s Who is released on Monday, and there are some notable new additions from Suffolk and Essex.

Former Ipswich Town chairman David Sheepshanks has joined the ranks of notable Britons to have his name added to the prestigious tome Who’s Who.

Mr Sheepshanks, 61, who lives at Eyke, is among 1,000 new entries in the 2014 edition of

the publication, which is released on Monday.

In his Who’s Who entry he lists his recreations as “playing golf, swimming, gardening, flower arranging, watching football, cricket and golf.”

Old Etonian Mr Sheepshanks, who was Ipswich Town’s chairman between 1995 and 2009, is among

a small number of people from Suffolk and north Essex set to make their debut in Who’s Who.

Inclusion in Who’s Who – which contains potted biographies of 33,000 of some of the most famous, most accomplished and most talented people – is by invitation only.

The other new entries include Professor Anthony Forster, 49, vice chancellor of the University of Essex, Professor James Raven, 54, Colchester-born former Gilberd School pupil and now a professor of modern history at the University of Essex, and Stephanie Liston, 55, American-born senior counsel for top law firm, Charles Russell LLP, who lives in Peasenhall.

Tracey MacLeod, 53, Ipswich-born restaurant critic of The Independent and former Ipswich High School pupil, and Ian Ellis, Colchester-born chairman of London property firm Telereal Trillium who will be 58 on Wednesday, are also added to the book.

Everyone in Who’s Who is invited to compile his or own entry, so entries can be as long or as short as celebrities wish.

David Sheepshanks explains his life in 11 lines, while the entry of Essex University’s Professor Anthony Forster runs to 26 lines.

Mr Sheepshanks and all the others will now remain in Who’s Who until they die, when they will be automatically transferred to Who’s Who’s sister publication, Who Was Who.

The new 2014 edition of Who’s Who will be published by Bloomsbury at £250 on Monday.

Also making their first appearance in Who’s Who are:

1. Thomas Grant, 44, Colchester-born former Colchester Royal Grammar School pupil, now a London-based QC.

2. Richard Boggis-Rolfe, 63, Bury St Edmunds-born chairman of executive recruitment agency, Odgers Berndtson.

3. Professor Stuart Elden, 41, Ipswich-born professor of political theory and geography at the University of Warwick

4. Stephen Hammersley, 51, Ipswich-born chief executive of London-based UK Community Foundations.

5. Sir Michael Lockett, 65, Bury St Edmunds-born chief executive of the Thames Diamond Jubilee Foundation. Educated at Woolverstone Hall,near Ipswich.

6. Nicholas Lodge, 52, Ipswich-born former Northgate Grammar schoolboy, now director general of Benefits and Credits and a Commissioner at HM Revenue and Customs.

7. Richard Wright, 37, not to be confused with the former Ipswich Town goalkeeper, Mr Wright was born in Ipswich and educated at Orwell High School,Felixstowe, and is now a Leeds-based QC, a deputy district judge and a Recorder.
