Knights from four corners of the country braved the heat and three rounds of gruelling combat as they battled it out in a medieval tournament at Framlingham Castle.

Visitors watched the 15th Century warriors compete in hand-to-hand fighting, archery competitions and a brutal Crest Melée that saw just one knight left standing.

Visitors to the castle also watched as the war-hardened soldiers duelled with swords and poleaxes while wearing knee-buckling authentic armour that weighed in at 65lbs.

The event, which took place across the weekend, also included a living history encampment, where visitors learnt about the finer points of medieval etiquette. The castle’s very own jester was also on hand to keep everyone in high spirits. Framlingham Castle is one of the most important and medieval buildings in the UK and was once the refuge of Mary Tudor in the mid-1500s.
