TV personality Griff Rhys Jones ran out of puff at the end of a popular race in Suffolk on Sunday, collapsing at the finish line.

Griff joined nearly 1,000 runners who descended on Alton Water near Holbrook to take part in three different runs, the 10k, 5k and 2k Fun Run.

Julia Holdcroft, chairman of the race committee, said: “It was a fabulous event. We had the perfect running weather, and lots of families came to cheer on the participants. Last year we raised in excess of £3,000 and we look like we are on target again this year. This is the second year we have offered the 5k run which is popular with students from Holbrook Academy.”

Proceeds from the event get divided between four schools on the Shotley Peninsula – Tattingstone CEVS, Stutton CEVS, Holbrook Primary School and Holbrook High School. The money helps support and develop facilities at the schools.

The 10k race was won by Steve Cooper who finished in 36.59 minutes and the 5k run was won by Ryan Ostler in 17.33min. Griff ran the 10k in 51.42min.
