West Suffolk turned into Middle Earth this weekend as fantasy fans young and old immersed themselves in Lord of the Rings - including two especially unfriendly faces.

Two new orcs were the star attractions at the West Stow Anglo-Saxon Village RingQuest event, which brought J.R.R Tolkien’s fantastic tale to life.

The village’s former orc, Guttrott The Unclean, hit the headlines after one mum claimed he was too scary on the village’s Facebook page.

However, backed by an EADT poll that overwhelmingly found Guttrott was good family fun, West Stow has moved to replace him with two brand new baddies, with a competition to name the dastardly duo launched this weekend.

“I’m afraid Guttrott had to go,” said Lance Alexander, St Edmundsbury Borough Council’s TIC and heritage operations manager.

“As a result, Guttrott The Unclean has now been posted to the misty mountains and instead, we have two brand new Orcs, which we have to say, are quite sensational.”
