GLASSES were raised yesterday when a new £1.5 million vineyard visitor centre opened for business.

The award-winning English Wine Barn at West Street Vineyard, Coggeshall, north Essex, has been four years in the building and has been recognised by the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) for its eco-friendly design features.

The centre is the work of husband and wife, Jane and Stephen Mohan, who intend it to use it showcase English wines. The building includes a wine school, an 80-seat café, wine bar, conference facilities and an outdoor terrace.

Mrs Mohan said: “We are thrilled to offer this new world experience to the region and hope to bring new tourists to learn about English wine and Coggeshall.”
