PUPILS have been polishing their robot outfits and practising their Shakespearean lines as they prepare for a very colourful and different school play.

More than 70 senior students and staff members at Orwell Park School, in Ipswich, will put on their Return to the Forbidden Planet show.

After performing in front of a packed audience of friends and relatives yesterday, the pupils will showcase their acting skills today at 6.30pm and tomorrow at 10.30pm.

The play, a jukebox musical by Bob Carlton, is based on William Shakespeare’s The Tempest as well as the 1956 science fiction film Forbidden Planet.

It will feature robots, spacemen and scientists all acting and singing classic rock’n’roll songs from the period.

Collection bowls for the soldiers’ charity Walking With The Wounded will be placed around the school to help raise funds.

The musical tells the story of The Starship Albatross, which is drawn mysteriously to the planet D’Illyria, where mad scientist Doctor Prospero and his lovely daughter Miranda are marooned.

The high-energy show is set inside a spaceship and features two sets of crew and stars, with the cast swapping roles for the second half of the very colourful and exciting performance.

Families of pupils have been given tickets to the performance.
