THE big screen version recently scooped three awards at this year’s Oscars - including best supporting actress for Hollywood star Anne Hathaway.

Now students from Farlingaye High School in Woodbridge are taking to the stage for their adaptation of West End classic Les Miserables.

As these photos show, the dedicated youngsters have been rehearsing hard for the shows, which start tonight and end on Saturday.

They even had a visit from former student Martin Warden, who went on to play the role of villain Javert at the Palace Theatre in London and sang at the musical’s 10th anniversary concert at the Albert Hall and 25th anniversary performance at the O2 arena. Sixth-former Sam Edwards, who is playing Javert in the school play, said: “Working with Martin really helped develop a detailed understanding of the character I am portraying. It was an experience that was absolutely invaluable, but also a lot of fun.”

Fellow student Peter Ling, who is playing the hero Valjean, added: “Having the chance to look in depth at the relationship between Valjean and Javert has been great as this is the key to the whole show.

“It is so valuable to have someone of Martin’s experience giving us pointers.”
