AN ESSEX town has celebrated its annual carnival in spectacular style, with a little inspiration from the legendary singer Sir Cliff Richard.

The 2009 Brightlingsea Carnival took place on Saturday and organisers chose the theme of “summer holiday” inspired by the 1963 film starring Sir Cliff.

Whilst Sir Cliff may not have made it to the coastal town, hundreds of people came along to enjoy the spectacle of the parade which kicked off with a car boot sale at the Recreation Ground in Regent Road.

The day continued with the lively and colourful procession through the town in the afternoon culminating in an entertaining afternoon of events, a variety of stalls and the Colchester Art Bus back at the Recreation Ground.
