She has inspired thousands and her legacy will live on.

That was the resounding message after brave Kerry Thorpe, 23, lost her battle with cystic fibrosis on Friday with her family, fiance Josh Nelli and dogs by her bedside.

Her fight for life shone through as she defied the odds to be added to the transplant list for a double lung transplant two years ago but her call never came.

Since her death, Kerry, who was an ambassador for Live Life Then Give Life (LLTGL), has inspired hundreds of people to find out how to become an organ donor.

Mandy Venters, the charity’s chairwoman, said Kerry’s death had prompted more than 77,000 to view its Facebook post of Kerry for its “I’d give you one” campaign.

“We were devastated to hear that our wonderful ambassador Kerry Thorpe passed away on Friday night whilst awaiting a lung transplant,” she said. “She was a role model for many people. She fought her way on to the transplant list and battled hard to remain here for that call and second chance. “Like many others, I was in awe of Kerry’s determination and resilience and immensely grateful for the fantastic support she gave LLTGL.

“She was dedicated to raising awareness of organ donation, not least during our ‘I’d give you one’ campaign which made a significant impact over the past couple of years.

“Over 77,000 people have reviewed our Facebook posting and more than 560 people have shared it on their timeline, so we hoped that Kerry continues to inspire people to ‘Think about it, Talk about it and Do something about it’ as it would be the finest tribute to her.”

Hundreds of friends, family and supporters have taken to Facebook to pay heartfelt tribute to Kerry’s “determination” and “tireless campaigning”.

Kelly Divers said: “Thinking of the fiancé and family of Kerry Alex Thorpe who passed away this weekend. She was a very aspiring 23 year old with cystic fibrosis who tirelessly campaigned for organ donors whilst waiting 2 years on the transplant list herself, but sadly never got her lungs. Please don’t forget to register yourself on the organ donor list people.”

While Kimberley Liane Kneil added: “It’s still not sinking in Kerry. My beautiful lung warrior, you fought so hard & yet time just ran out. I can’t believe we never got to walk the puppy dogs on the beach & we were only talking about it the other week... I’ll make it my mission to live life how you’d have wanted me too. Will miss you loads sweet but we’ll meet again. Until then, party hard up their my angel.”

And Vicky White posted: “Heaven gained another beautiful angel last night after just celebrating her 23rd birthday. Thinking of all her family at this time, breathe easy Kerry Thorpe xx”
