A POPULAR event combining aircraft with agricultural machinery has been hailed a success.

The rich traditions of the Wings, Wheels and Steam event at Rougham Airfield, near Bury St Edmunds, continued over the weekend, attracting hundreds of people.

One of the highlights of the annual show, supported by the East Anglian Daily Times, was 100 light aircraft while classic and custom cars and steam engines proved popular among the wealth of commercial and military vehicles.

Peter Eager , director of the flying displays and airfield manager, said the appeal of the event was that it attracted a wide range of interests.

He said: “There appears to have been a very good turnout over both days and the whole event has been very successful. I think Wings, Wheels and Steam has a kind of garden party atmosphere and a great mix of military and agricultural vehicles and a fantastic flying display.”

Yesterday afternoon saw a display of expert gliding techniques while gyrocopters and tanks also appealed to visitors. Another air display and classic car show will be held on the airfield on August 15 and 16.
