Viking day at The Abbey, in Woodbridge - Credit: Archant
Pupils at a Suffolk school took a voyage back to a bygone age of seafaring settlers.
Children at The Abbey – the preparatory department of Woodbridge School - travelled through time and became a band of Vikings for the day.
Dressed in costume, the year four pupils were visited by a “Viking” guest, who taught them about why they came to Britain from Scandinavia and how they lived.
The children got the chance to handle replicas of ancient household items while sitting on a wild boar skin.
There was then time to play some Viking games and learn how to make coins.
The youngsters also got to watch a demonstration on the use of Viking weapons, which included the “beheading” of a melon with an engraved sword.
The day finished with everyone picking up their swords and shield and taking part in a large mock battle.
