Head north for this delightful walk through meadows around Garboldisham

The walk starts at the picturesque Norfolk village of Garboldisham, mainly on well maintained paths and tracks with just one cross-field path. There are various landscapes en route including woods, ancient tracks and meadowland.

Leave the car park into Church Road and turn left and you will soon come quickly to a T junction of roads, turn right at this point and you will immediately come to the A1066, turn left here and for a short while walking on a pavement which will quickly run out. At this point cross the road onto a wide green verge and carry on in the same direction and you will then quickly come to a farm track to your right by a footpath sign. Turn right here having a hedge to your right and when this ceases just carry on in the same direction with open fields both sides.

The track will then come out onto the road. At this point turn right and approximately 50 yards after passing a turning to your left, turn left into the entrance of a sports field and immediately turn right keeping to the right hand side of the field with a hedge to your right (soon having a fence to your left, just keep to the fence as it goes away from the hedge). When the fence swings to the left you also turn left at this point and then you will soon have a stile to your right, go over this then immediately cross a road and carry straight on, on another farm track with a footpath sign to your left.

You will then come to another footpath sign to your left, turn left at this point still walking on a green track. Roughly 20 yards before you come to a gate and a stile in front of you, don’t aim for these but turn right on a narrow path to begin with walking between some trees then carry on in the same direction having a large field to your right. When you come to the right hand field’s boundary just carry on for about 50 yards on a green track and you will be faced by a stile. Cross this into a meadow then look diagonally right across the meadow and you will see a clump of bushes, aim for the left hand side of the bushes and when you get to that point look diagonally right across the meadow and you will see a wooden stile - aim for this then cross it and carry on for a few paces down into a dip. You then turn right by a footpath sign walking on a path with a barbed wire fence to your right. The path will then take you back to the A1066. Cross this and walk on for a few paces till you come to a wooden fence and walk to the left of this on a footpath walking between trees. Just after passing the field with pigs in it on your left look to the right for a path that will take you to a footpath sign. Go to the sign and you will be faced by a large field. Look slightly diagonally right across the field and you will see a corner of a wood, aim for this.

Once across turn left by a footpath sign keeping the wood to your right walking on a track. The track will then go into a wood, just keep with it and it will very quickly take you out of the wood. Carry straight on in the same direction now having trees and a ditch to your right. When you come to the left hand field boundary turn right by a footpath sign walking on another track keeping a wood to your right. You will soon come to a crossroads of tracks with a footpath sign to your right, at this point turn left walking on a track with a fence to your left.

The track will soon come out onto a road. Turn left and when the road comes to an end turn right just in front of a car port to the right hand side of a wooden gate then almost immediately bear right with the path walking between trees. You will then come to a wooden gate in front of you. Ignore this and turn right on a path walking between trees and you will then come to a kissing gate – go through this and immediately through another

one first of all walking on a green path then quickly walking onto a gravel drive with a house to your right.

You will soon have the remains of an old church to your right and then quickly coming out onto a road, cross this and carry straight on by a footpath sign walking on a path with a fence to your left. You will then come to some steps in front of St. John the Baptist Church, Garboldisham. Go down these and turn left walking on a pavement that will very quickly take you back to the car park from where you started.
