A YOUNG girl has died after being found unconscious in a leisure centre swimming pool.
Police are treating the death at Blackwater Leisure Centre, in Maldon, as “unexplained”.
Emergency services were called at 2.10pm on Saturday and the seven-year-old girl was pronounced dead at hospital less than an hour later.
“Despite the best efforts of paramedics to revive her, she was sadly pronounced dead at Colchester hospital at 3pm,” said an Essex Police spokeswoman.
The spokeswoman said the death of the girl, from London, was “unexplained”.
The Health and Safety Executive is now investigating the tragedy.
