A SUFFOLK school is celebrating after Ofsted inspectors recognised its progress.

Gislingham Primary School, near Eye, was rated “outstanding” and praised for its levels of student achievement, quality of teaching, student behaviour and leadership and management. Just three years ago inspectors judged it “satisfactory”.

Andrew Berry, the school’s headteacher, said: “It’s very pleasing. It’s currently giving the school a good feeling in terms of the fact that we have been recognised. It was a big challenge because we set our standards incredibly high and we want to stay at that level.”

The report follows a two-day inspection in October. The inspector commented on the school’s “strong emphasis” on developing literacy and numeracy skills.

Kit Wells, chair of the school’s governors, said: “The children have responded fantastically to high-quality teaching, as shown by the superb SATs results that have been achieved over the last two years. I am sure that parents, who have been very supportive of our efforts, will be delighted with this report.”
