A young child has died after reports of an incident involving inflatable play equipment.
Emergency services were called to a “serious” incident at Gorleston beach this morning.
The East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust received more than a dozen calls just after 11am.
Ambulance teams took the child to the James Paget Hospital “in a serious medical condition”.
Norfolk police has since confirmed the child died.
“The young girl was taken to the James Paget Hospital; however sadly died,” a police spokesman added.
“Next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.”
Reports on social media have said a bouncy castle exploded.
A police cordon has been set up around the Bounce About children’s area and visitors have been prevented from using the facilities.
However, the rest of the beach remains open to members of the public and none of the roads in the surrounding area are closed.
A joint investigation between the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), local authority and police has been launched to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident, A police cordon has been put in place at the scene while enquiries continue.
