A photography project exploring the plight of refugees in Ipswich has been given a grant boost from two county councillors.
Ipswich-based photographer and winner of last year’s Sky Arts Master of Photography series Gillian Allard is running the project supported by Suffolk Refugee Support.
It features photographers engaging with refugees in Ipswich to explore how they were welcomed to the town and what impact they have.
Mandy Gaylard and Bill Quinton, Ipswich Labour county councillors have donated £1,000 from their locality budgets to support the project, which is featuring in May’s PhotoEast Festival.
Martin Simmonds of Suffolk Refugee Support said: ‘This is a wonderful opportunity for refugees from across the world who are rebuilding their lives in Suffolk to express creatively their ideas of ‘belonging’. It has been fantastic to see some of the people we support take control of their own narratives.”
