EMERGENCY services were called to a car crash along the A120 this morning.
Firefighters, police and an air ambulance attended the scene at 10am where two cars had collided near the junction with Great Bromley.
Two women had to be rescued from their vehicles, named as a green Kia Rio and a black Renault Scenic. They were heading in the direction of Colchester.
The East of England Ambulance service said they were both taken to Colchester General Hospital but their injuries are non-life threatening.
Three other people received minor injuries and a section of both carriageways were closed for a short period of time.
The Highways Agency is currently carrying out road safety measures in the area following a series of fatal and non-fatal accidents over the last few years.
White lines have been painted to remove the dual carriageway at the two junctions between Little Bentley and Great Bromley.
