BEER, music and fundraising were the orders of the day over the Easter weekend at one Suffolk pub.
Scores of people made a bee-line to the Five Bells, in Bures Road, Great Cornard, for their first-ever beer festival.
More than £400 has already been raised for Help for Heroes’ Headley Court Hospital from the event and it is hoped even more will boost the coffers as it continues into today.
Landlady and licensee Wendy Hedley said she was “really, really chuffed” with the support for the festival, which featured 12 real ales and two ciders supported by music from Double Whammy, 80s Band and Joe Public who all donated their time free of charge.
The beer was soaked up with a variety of food including a barbecue and a table-top sale also helped to boost the total further.
Mrs Hedley, who runs the pub with her husband Bob, a former Coldstream Guard, said they were keen to support Help for Heroes as the charity is “close to their hearts”.
They are planning other fundraising events, and she added: “Last year we took a cheque for £4,000 to Headley Court Hospital and hope to match it this year.”
