Four people have been taken to hospital after a two vehicle crash in Great Cornard this morning.

Two fire crews from Sudbury and one from Long Melford as well as police and four ambulances were sent to the scene of the crash in Maldon Court, Shawlands Avenue around 10.30am.

Both the cars involved, a blue Lexus and a silver Hyundai, were badly damaged and the road was blocked. One person was trapped inside a vehicle and fire crews had to use hydraulic cutting gear and small tools to release the person by 11.28am.

One male suffered facial injuries and a female had chest pains while the other two, whose genders are not known, suffered from a knee injury and a cut to the head. None of the injuries are believed to be life-threatening however all four have been taken to West Suffolk Hospital.

The road has been fully re-opened.
