With the Great East Run taking place today we round up what you need to know about one of the most anticipated races in the region.

Over 3,500 people are expected to be taking part in today’s half marathon in and around Ipswich. It’s the second time the event has been held in the town.

The event starts and finishes on Russell Road, the route passing the prestigious Willis building before heading through the beautiful Holywells Park and travelling down to Ipswich’s vibrant waterfront.

On Friday hundreds of youngsters got into the spirit of the race by meeting with elite marathon runner Lily Partridge as they took part in the Daily Mile. Find out more about their day.

Most runners will know that timing is key when it comes to racing so whether your looking for your section’s start time or what the weather might do to it we have you covered.

Many roads will be closed this morning from as early as 6am. So if you are off to watch a friend and need to know where to go or are trying to make your way through town we have a full list of closures including expected re-opening times once all the competitors have passed through.

If you need a final bit of inspiration this morning among the competitors on the 13.1 mile long course will be 79-year-old David Cooper who begins a three race challenge in his wheelchair. Find out more about his story.
