Emergency services, including the police helicopter, were scambled this afternoon after a woman was trapped in thick mud near Chelmsford.

They were alerted to the incident just before 3pm and rushed to the scene at Cole Hill, in Great Leighs to help rescue the victim.

Essex Fire Brigade sent crews from Braintree, Chelmsford, Leigh and the urban search and rescue team

and worked alongside Essex Police and the East of England Ambulance Service’s Hazardous Area Response Team to locate the woman.

She had been walking with a friend along a nearby footpath when she had become trapped in nearby mud.

Firefighters led the woman’s friend to safety from the muddy area and then used inflatable rescue paths to create a safe exit route for the trapped woman.
