Rail services in Suffolk and Essex have been disrupted after a person was hit by a train.

The incident happened between Goodmayes and Romford in Essex and had blocked all lines – including the Great Eastern Mainline.

Greater Anglia reported that by 6pm all lines had reopened, however customers were warned that disruption was expected to continue until around 9pm. Greater Anglia later said disruption would continue until 11pm.

Services are expected to be cancelled, delayed by up to two hours or revised at short notice.

“Due to a person hit by a train earlier today between Goodmayes and Romford, train services will be subject to delays, alterations, and cancellations whilst the service recovers,” a spokesman said.

“All train services between Liverpool Street and Shenfield, Southend Victoria, Braintree, Colchester, Ipswich and Norwich will be disrupted. Customers are advised not to travel.

“Emergency services are working as quickly as possible to restore the train service to normal.”

Greater Anglia and Network Rail have apologised to people whose journeys have been affected by the disruption.
