Rail services across the Greater Anglia network returned to normal on Monday after last week’s disruption caused by the snow and low temperatures.

All services ran as normal – although a few trains were shorter than normal because some units were still being repaired in depots at Ilford and Norwich because snow and ice had damaged motors.

The last routes to be shut by snow were cleared on Sunday – a snowplough was called in to clear the line between Norwich and Lowestoft.

A spokeswoman for Greater Anglia said the company was glad to return to normal and “catch its breath” after the dramas of last week that saw hundreds of trains cancelled and some lines closed.

She said: “People who had to abandon their journeys can travel until this Wednesday on their original tickets. We apologise for the disruption and thank passengers for their understanding during the snow.”
