IPSWICH suffered gridlock on the roads today - leaving many drivers late for work and some children late for school.

It appears a combination of factors caused the chaos.

One incident was in the London Road area which emergency services were dealing with at about 8am today.

Two women were taken to Ipswich Hospital with neck injuries after a blue Vauxhall and a green Renault collided - leaving the road blocked.

An accident on Belstead Road left a pedestrian with leg injuries after he was struck by a car on Belstead Road.

Police and the East of England Ambulance Service were called at 8.20am today and the road remained blocked for just under an hour. A 40-year-old man was conveyed to Ipswich Hospital.

Traffic was also caused by the closure of Grafton Way, which lead to queues in the Stoke Bridge/Novotel roundabout area.

Queues were reported on all major routes into the town centre and traffic was increased by the return of cars involved in school runs.
