THE devastated brother of a man who died when he was in collision with a van has said his family will not be able to grieve until questions surrounding his death have been answered.

A GRIEVING man has made an emotional plea for help in solving the mystery of how his brother was killed.

This week marks one month since Allan Doobay died in an accident in Mile End Road, Colchester.

He was hit by a passing van but post-mortem results suggested the 32-year-old was already lying face down in the middle of the road at the point of impact.

Now Mr Doobay's brother, Peter, has appealed for a missing witness to come forward, hoping his information could help the family to understand what happened and move on with their lives.

Mr Doobay had enjoyed a night out with friends in Colchester town centre on St Patrick's Day and was walking home when the accident happened.

Speaking to the EADT, he said his younger brother had been seen walking past just moments before the accident by the owner of a takeaway who described him as looking totally coherent.

He said: “But we also understand there was another person in the area at this time. This witness is not a suspect in any shape or form but what is pivotal he was seen in or around the area where Allan was hit and at the precise time as well.

“The police think he would have had a good view of it and he could be the best person, apart from the driver, to tell us what happened.

“This man may have missed the news or be going along in his life thinking it was better to walk away, but this case is different because someone died as the result of an accident and he could solve the mystery of why my brother was in the road - especially as he had no reason to cross the road.”

Details are very sketchy, but police want to speak to this new witness who was wearing a green coat at the time of the accident.

Stanway road police have also issued a fresh appeal for anyone with information to contact them.

Pc Roger Manser said: “Any people who did not speak to the police when events happened should contact us.

“It is for the family's sake, to put their minds at rest and hopefully will help to reassure them about what happened.”

It is understood the driver of the van, a local man who is not under suspicion, did not see the body in the road.

Mr Doobay, a computer analyst who lived in Studd's Lane, died from multiple injuries and his funeral was held last week in Acton, where he grew up.

About 20 of his friends from Colchester attended and Mr Doobay said everyone was at a loss to explain what had happened.

The accident happened about 75 metres from the Mile End Road junction with Wedgewood Drive, on the Sudbury-bound side.

Anyone who saw Mr Doobay in the moments leading up to the accident, should contact Stanway road policing unit on 01206 762512.
