A Suffolk family held a ‘Christmas light switch-on’ party to raise money for a charity that supports people with autism.

Martin Bignell and his wife Sarah decorated their Hadleigh home with twinkling lights and a big illuminated Santa. They then invited local people to a party on Sunday evening, where they collected funds for Autism Suffolk.

Two of the Bignells’ five children, Bradley, 10, and Cody, 8, have the condition, and the family has benefitted greatly from the charity’s help.

Mr Bignell said: “They have been a massive help to us and have provided support with the children in many ways, such as putting us in touch with relevant groups and courses, organising trips and enabling us to go on a holiday to Great Yarmouth last year. They are always at the end of the phone to answer any questions we might have. We really owe them and thought it would be nice to give something back.”
