A majority of voters in a parish poll have called for their town council to resign.

The poll, held yesterday in Hadleigh asked voters whether they wanted councillors to stand down due to having no confidence in the “dysfunctional” town council.

The results, announced at 10pm yesterday were:

Yes: 489 votes

No: 252 votes

Spoiled: two ballots

Turnout: 743 (11%)

The result was announced by returning officer Arthur Charvonia, chief executive of Babergh and Mid Suffolk district councils, after the count, which was held followed the closing of polls yesterday evening at Hadleigh Guildhall.

Babergh District Council said the vote was not legally binding and it will fall to the town councillors to decide how to respond.

More to follow.
