A POPULAR doctor is fighting for his life after suffering severe burns in a horror accident at home.
Dr Darryl Peel, of Huntingfield, is expected to be in an induced coma for the next six weeks after suffering the burns from a bonfire.
The father-of-three, who is well known in Halesworth after spending 10 years at Cutlers Hill Surgery, was injured after trying to light the fire in his garden on Wednesday morning.
He now works at the Framlingham Medical Practice.
His wife Susie Peel said it was “touch and go” whether he would survive as she left to be at his bedside.
Dr Peel, 51, was flown to a specialist burns unit at Broomfield Hospital, in Chelmsford, by the East Anglian Air Ambulance on Wednesday.
Dr Peel worked at Cutlers Hill Surgery in Halesworth for 10 years until 2003, when the family emigrated to Australia, before moving back to Suffolk.
