A 44-year-old man has pleaded guilty to theft and racially aggravated behaviour following an incident in Ipswich.

On Wednesday, August 1, a man was detained by police for theft of goods - a four pack of beer and a bottle of water - from a Waitrose store in Princes Street, Ipswich

According to a spokesman for Suffolk police, the man then became verbally abusive towards a member of security staff at the shop, using racial abuse towards them.

Toby Millett, 44, of Bridge Street in Halesworth, was later charged with theft and racially aggravated behaviour and was remanded to appear before Ipswich Magistrates’ Court today, Friday, August 3.

He pleaded guilty to the theft and racially aggravated behaviour offences and also admitted to breaching the terms of a previous conviction for drunk and disorderly behaviour.

He was remanded in custody until his next court appearance, at Ipswich Magistrates’ Court, on Thursday, August 9.
