POLICE are appealing to people who were out watching fireworks in Harwich on New Year’s Eve to help them trace the group responsible for an assault in the town that night.

They need to identify two men and a woman who were in a group that assaulted a man near the Quay in West Street just after midnight.

The 23-year-old victim received cuts and bruises after he was punched in the face and body. He has described three of the people involved in the attack.

One was a white man, aged 24-25 years old, about 5ft 7ins tall of medium build with blondish hair. He was wearing a white hooded top possibly with red writing on it.

The other man was also white and of a similar age, 5ft 6ins tall, of medium build with short dark hair. He was wearing dark clothing.

The woman, who was crying, is described as possibly mixed race, 20 years old, around 5ft 6ins tall of slim build with longish, dark hair and probably not wearing shoes.

Anyone with any information that can identify these people is asked to contact Pc Gareth Hennessy at Harwich police station on 101.
