Dock worker accused of rape tells court woman was ‘only a bit drunk’

Giving evidence during his trial at Ipswich Crown Court, Joe Jordan denied raping the woman and said she had initiated the sex that took place.

He said she had no difficulty talking and at no time did she say or do anything to indicate she wasn’t consenting to what was going on.

Jordan, 24, of Main Road, Harwich, has denied two offences of raping the woman on July 17 last year.

It has been alleged that Jordan raped the woman in his Ford Mondeo after offering to take her home.

Witnesses in Parkeston saw a Ford Mondeo driver pull a drunk semi-naked woman out of his car by her arms and drop her on the pavement, the court has heard.

“She was left lying on the ground with her skirt up revealing she had no underwear on,” said Lesley Bates, prosecuting.

“She was unable to sit up, she couldn’t speak other than to mumble and she had wet herself,” she added.

Members of the public were so concerned about her that they called an ambulance and when she was taken to hospital a blood sample blood alcohol concentration was four-and-a-half times the limit for driving.

Swabs were taken and Jordan’s semen was found on an intimate swab taken from her.

Miss Bates claimed the woman wasn’t capable of consenting to sex because of her level of intoxication.

During his evidence Jordan said he recognised the alleged victim walking along the road as he was driving and stopped to see if she was alright.

A woman also stopped in her car to check on her and when the alleged victim wouldn’t get into her car Jordan offered to take her home.

He said while he was driving she had swung her legs on his lap and touched his trousers.

He claimed she had performed a sex act on him and had then asked him to have sex with her.

After they had sex he drove her home and claimed she kissed him and said she loved him.

He had helped her out of the car and she had sat down on the pavement.
