POLICE officers are investigating an alleged cannabis factory after a flat fire in Harwich.
Firefighters were called to West Street in Harwich after the fire alarm was triggered shortly after 7.20pm.
Two crews from Dovercourt discovered a fire in a ground-floor flat.
The flat appeared to have been used as a cannabis factory, a spokesman for the brigade said.
He said the flat was heavily smoke logged and firefighters used breathing equipment to tackle the flames which was under control by 7.40pm.
Police officers were called and a joint police and fire service investigation is to be carried out to establish the cause of the blaze.
