POLICE are appealing for information after a large fire destroyed a derelict school building in Haverhill on Sunday.

Officers were contacted by the fire service just after 10pm after they had received multiple calls about a blaze at the former Castle Hill Middle School in School Lane.

A number of fire pumps were in attendance and the fire was brought under control. Nobody was inside.

The structure of the building is not currently stable enough for fire officers to carry out a full examination into the cause of the fire, but following initial investigations it is being deemed as suspicious.

Police are appealing for anyone who has information about how the fire was started or who may have started it to contact police immediately on 101.

Officers are also urging members of the public to stay away from the site as it is unsafe and anyone entering would be putting themselves at risk.
