A Suffolk primary school headteacher came up with a novel way to get the snow closure message to his pupils by filming a Love Actually-inspired video.

David Maguire, from Coupals Primary Academy in Haverhill, filmed the clip yesterday to let students know that the school would be closed again today due to the snow.

Mr Maguire can be seen recreating the famous scene from the hit 2003 film when Andrew Lincoln’s character arrives at Keira Knightley’s door with cue cards to express his feelings.

The headteacher’s cue cards assure students that by Monday the snow will have gone and the sun will be out.

“But for now,” the cards read. “Let me say with regret, and because of this pesky snow, that Coupals will be closed tomorrow. Sorry.

“And be grateful I didn’t recreate the scene where the PM dances!”

The school was one of more than 200 across Suffolk and Essex to close again today due to the adverse weather conditions.

Mr Maguire said: “A friend of mine showed me a video of a headteacher in American doing his own version of Let it Go from Frozen to announce a closure and we put it on our Facebook page.

“Parents were commenting on it and saying about us doing something.

“I love films so we thought this would be a good one to do.

“School closures are a serious issue and very rare. I’ve worked in Haverhill since 2006 and this is only the second time it has happened.

“It can be quite a stressful time for parents so we thought this might lighten the mood a little bit.”
