A Suffolk primary school has chosen a unique way to recruit its new headteacher – by making a film showcasing all that it has to offer.

Pupils at Westfield Primary Academy in Haverhill starred in the special You Tube film as part of the recruitment drive for the new head.

Footage includes interviews in the library, classroom and playground and also pupils recreating the roles of school staff and even the ‘headteacher’.

The light-hearted video, produced by Ipswich-based videographer Jamie Niblock, has already been a big hit with more than 1,000 views within the first 24 hours.

Tim Coulson, chief executive of the Unity Schools Partnership of which Westfield is a member, said: “We wanted to try something different to recruit a new headteacher at Westfield Primary School and we are delighted with the reaction and support of our local community.

“Pupils across all year groups star in the film to tell us why they love Westfield and what they are looking for in their new headteacher.”

Charley Abbott, chair of governors at Westfield Primary Academy, said: “I know all the pupils, parents and governors think it is a great idea. It brings to life the personality of the school - it is impossible to watch it without smiling.

“Westfield is a very special school and the film shows how passionate the pupils are about it and how they really care about their new headteacher. “And from the point of view of any prospective candidate, how can you not get a sense of what the school is all about?”

The current interim head, David Maguire, will return to neighbouring Coupals Primary Academy next summer.
