Burst pipe causes flooding on busy Suffolk road

Engineers have been battling to fix a burst water pipe which has been pouring gallons of water onto a busy main road in Suffolk.

Water technicians were called to the site on the A143 in Haverhill at around 3.30am and where water was gushing out of temporary pipes.

The engineers have now have managed to stop the heavy flow of water, however the pipe is still leaking on to the road.

The leak is located at the site of on going road works on Wratting Road and images show water flooding the side of the street creating a large puddle.

Police are warning drivers to take care around the incident as there is a risk of aquaplaning because of the large amount of water on the road.

A spokesperson from Anglian Water said: “We sent out technicians earlier this morning to a burst water main near Haverhill.

“The main flow of water has been stopped but our team will continue to work to completely stop the leak.

“No houses around the area should experience water outages or low-pressure as a consequence of the leak.”
