Heart FM breakfast DJ Dave Taylor took on a charity challenge with a difference this afternoon – learning to busk classic songs with the help of high school students.

Dave Taylor was challenged by his boss to learn guitar and sing in less than two weeks for the Global Make Some Noise campaign, which locally is raising money for Suffolk Young Carers.

Having been taught the songs by Ipswich High School for Girls student Fizzy Meredith, Mr Taylor was joined by producer Nick Mellamphy outside Debenhams in Ipswich town centre for the performance.

Mr Taylor’s sporadic set opened with a suitably comedic performance of Smelly Cat, complete with lyrics taped to Mr Mellamphy’s back, before tearing up Oasis classic Wonderwall.

He was then joined by pupils from the school’s Ukulele Jam group for Hey Ho followed by an audience singalong inducing Stand By Me, and a final run through of Smelly Cat.

Mr Taylor joked afterwards: “I genuinely think it is the worst busking Ipswich has ever heard!”

“I can talk in a studio in front of no-one but when you do stuff like this it is not in my comfort zone.

“But it is for charity, it was funny and a bit of a laugh.”

Fizzy, 15 added: “Well done to Dave – he is a good student and he works hard and it was nice to play alongside him.”
