Police were called to a crash on the A12 next to Colchester football stadium this evening which blocked the carriageway.
Essex Roads Policing Unit North confirmed officers were on the scene after a collision in the northbound carriageway between Spring Lane and the Jobserve Community Stadium at approximately 3pm today.
Two East of England Ambulance Services vehicles attended the scene and standstill traffic built up for about five miles back to the Stanway area while the carriageway was blocked.
Officers have now reopened lane two shortly after 4.30pm allowing some traffic to filter through and the carriageway was completely reopened by 5.10pm.
The road still remains congested over an hour after reopening.
