Fire crews were called out yesterday afternoon after part of a 1,000-tonne muck heap on farming land in Hepworth was reported to be on fire.
Crews from Ixworth and Bury St Edmunds were sent to the scene, in North Common, at about 5.55pm.
The heap had caught fire and burnt out but there were still hot spots so more crews from Bury St Edmunds were called for.
The farmer of the land helped firefighters break apart the heap so they could fully extinguish it, using one hose reel.
Crews returned to their bases at about 9.30pm.
