Highways bosses have announced they will be carrying out a series of improvements to the road network across Suffolk and north Essex this week.

Below is a summary of planned new and ongoing roadworks projects that will be taking place over the coming week.

Timings may change, Highways England chiefs said, due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.

All improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible, they added.

Planned roadworks in the East of England: Weekly summary for Monday 22 to Sunday 28 January

• A12 Junction 32b Capel St Mary, Suffolk: Safety fence replacement

Work continues this week to replace the safety fence barrier on the A12.

Lane closures with a 40mph speed restriction will be in place east and westbound Monday to Friday 8pm to 6am.

• A12 Junction 27 to Junction 29, Colchester: Resurfacing

Work to resurface sections of the northbound carriageway will start on Monday January 22, for four nights, with working hours of 8pm to 6am.

There will be a full closure in place on the northbound carriageway and a clearly signed diversion will be in place.

• A12 Junction 29 to Junction 30, Colchester: Resurfacing

Work to resurface sections of the northbound carriageway and entry slip road will start on Friday January 26, for one night, with working hours of 8pm to 6am.

There will be a full closure in place on the northbound carriageway and a clearly signed diversion will be in place.

• A12 Essex: Vegetation clearance

Work to improve journeys by clearing vegetation along the A12 verges east and westbound between Ipswich and Brentwood.

Lane closures will be in place past the section being worked on overnight, between 8pm and 6am.

• A12 Junction 27 to Junction 29, Colchester: Resurfacing

Work to resurface sections of the northbound carriageway will start on Monday January 22, for four nights, with working hours of 8pm to 6am.

There will be a full closure in place on the northbound carriageway and a clearly signed diversion will be in place.

• A12 Hatfield Peverel bypass, southbound: Drainage surveys

Work to inspect drainage at A12 Hatfield Peverel bypass, southbound starts Wednesday January 24, lasting two nights, with working hours of 8pm to 6am.

Lane closures will be in effect during these works.

• A12 Junction 29 to Junction 30, Colchester: Resurfacing

Work to resurface sections of the northbound carriageway and entry slip road will start on Friday January 26, for one night, with working hours of 8pm to 6am.

There will be a full closure in place on the northbound carriageway and a clearly signed diversion will be in place.

• A12 and A120, Essex: Barrier repairs

Work to repair damaged safety barriers along the A12 and A120 in various locations continues this week, with working hours of 8pm to 6am, weeknights only.

Single lane closures will be in place past the area being worked on.

• M11 junctions 8 Stansted to 9 (A11), Essex: Electrical repair

Work to maintain safety by carrying out CCTV work continues this week.

Lane closures will be in place in both directions, overnight between 9pm and 5am, from Monday January 22 for five nights.

• M11 junctions 8 Stansted to 7 Harlow, Essex: Sign replacement

Work to maintain safety by carrying out digital messaging sign replacement will start this week.

Lane one will be closed on the southbound carriageway, overnight between 9pm and 5am, from Monday January 22 for five nights.

• M11 junctions 7 Harlow to 8 Stansted, Essex: Drainage surveys

Drainage surveys on the M11 southbound between junctions 7 and 8 will continue.

While work takes place overnight, the outside lane in both directions will be closed between 8pm and 6am, weeknights only.

• M11 junctions 6 (M25) to 9 (A11): Barrier repairs

Work to repair damaged safety barriers along the M11 will continue this week.

Single lane closures will be in place past the work area from 9pm to 5am, weeknights only.

• M11 junction 6 to 13: Drainage survey works

Works to survey drains along verges and central reserves on the M11 between junction 6 and 13 starts on Monday January 15 in both directions.

The work will finish on Friday, February 1, with working hours of 9pm to 5am, weeknights only. Single lane closures will be in place.

• M11 and A14, Cambridgeshire: Barrier repairs

Work to repair damaged safety barriers along the M11 and A14 in various locations continues this week. Working hours are 8pm to 6am, weeknights only.

Single lane closures will be in place past the area being worked on.

• M25 junction 16 northbound: Technology maintenance

Work to maintain technology assets on M25 junction 16 northbound will start on Monday January 22, lasting one night, with working hours of 9pm to 6am.

There will be a full closure of the road during this work, with a clearly signed diversion route in place.

• M25 junction 22 to 21A, northbound: Technology maintenance

Work to maintain technology assets on M25 between junction 22 and 21A northbound, and the M25/M1 northbound slip road will start on Wednesday January 24, lasting two nights, with working hours of 9pm to 6am.

There will be a full closure of the road during these works, with a clearly signed diversion route in place.

• M25 junction 16 southbound: Essential maintenance

Work to maintain technology assets on M25 junction 16 southbound will start on Monday January 22, for one night, between 9pm and 6am.

There will be a multiple lane closures in place during this work.

• A11 Norfolk: Vegetation clearance

Work to improve journeys by clearing vegetation along the A11 verges between Attleborough and Norwich continues. Lane closures will be in place past the section being worked on overnight, between 8pm and 6am.

• A11 Cambridgeshire: Vegetation clearance

Work to improve journeys by clearing vegetation along the verges of the A11 continues this week.

Lane closures will be in place past the section being worked on between 8pm and 6am.

• A11 Besthorpe: Vehicle restraint system replacement

Work to remove and replace sections of the vehicle restraint system on the A11 between Wymondham Bypass and Attleborough Bypass/Crowshall Lane will begin on Monday January 22 for a fortnight.

The A11 will be closed between 8pm and 6am on weeknights.

A clearly signed diversion will be in place.

• A11/A47 Thickthorn Interchange: Drainage surveys

Work to inspect drainage at the A11/A47 Thickthorn Interchange starts Wednesday January 24, lasting three nights, with working hours of 8pm to 6am.

Multiple lane closures will be in effect during these works.

• A14 Cambridge to Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire: Major improvements

Construction work on the new A14 Cambridge to Huntingdon scheme is well under way.

Regular lane or carriageway closures are needed on the A1, A14 and some local roads, usually overnight between 8pm and 6am, unless otherwise stated.

A clearly signed diversion route will always be in place for closures.

Lane closures for Monday, January 22 (one night)

A14 westbound between junction 21 and junction 20, lane one closed.

A14 Suffolk: Vegetation clearance

Work to improve journeys by clearing vegetation along the A14 verges westbound between Felixstowe and Newmarket will continue.

Lane closures will be in place past the section being worked on, between 8pm and 6am.

A14 Junction 40 to Junction 43 east and westbound: Resurfacing

Work to reconstruct and resurface the dual carriageway between junctions 40 and 43 continues this week.

Full eastbound closures are required weeknights only between 8pm and 6am until January 23.

Full westbound closures will take place from January 24.

During the work, there will be clearly signed diversion routes in place via the A11 and A1101.

A14 Junction 51 to Junction 52 northbound: Embankment repairs

Work to improve the embankment at the layby begins this week.

The layby will be closed and localised lane closures will take place on weeknights between 8pm and 6am until March 15.

• A47 Thorney: Survey works

Work to survey the condition of the road surface between the A47 Oversley roundabout and the Thorney Bypass, will start Monday January 22, lasting two nights, with working hours of 8pm to 6am.

A full road closure will be in place, with a clearly signed diversion route in place via The Causeway and Station Road.

• A47 King’s Lynn, Norfolk: Bridge repair work

Work to repair and replace joints on the Saddlebow Bridge over the A47 at King’s Lynn continues, and is expected to be completed around Easter.

Saddlebow Bridge is closed to vehicles during this time and a clearly signed diversion route is in place.

• A47 Swaffham: Resurfacing

Work to resurface the A47 carriageway between Castle Acre Road and Norwich Road will commence on Friday January 19 and take around three weeks to be completed.

Highways workers will be resurfacing, relining and laying new road studs.

The A47 will be closed between 8pm and 6am on weeknights.

A clearly signed diversion will be in place.

• A47 Gorleston, Great Yarmouth: Signage and crossing upgrades

Work to upgrade traffic lights, install new road signs and upgrade two pedestrian crossings continues on the A47 Lowestoft Road.

The improvements should finish around the end of March.

A number of temporary 24-hour traffic restrictions will be in place throughout the work as required:

• Left turn only from Bridge Road, Brasenose Avenue and James Paget Hospital onto the Lowestoft Road.

• Access to Kennedy Avenue will be via Bridge Road only.

• The pedestrian crossings at James Paget Hospital and at Beaufort Way will be closed and replaced with nearby temporary pedestrian crossings.

• Lane closures on all approaches to Beaufort Way.

• A47 Lowestoft: Resurfacing

Work on the A47 between Cart Score and Mill Road will commence on Thursday January 11, and be completed in late February.

Highways workers will be resurfacing the road, clearing vegetation, and carrying out minor safety improvements.

Carriageway closures will be in place overnight between 8pm and 6am.

A clearly signed diversion route will be in place for each closure.

• A47 Hopton: vehicle restraint system replacement

Work to remove and replace vehicle restraint systems along the A47 will take place between Monday January 22 and Friday March 2 between 8pm and 6am on weeknights.

The A47 will be closed between Beaufort Way/A47roundabout and A47/Hall Road.

A clearly signed diversion will be in place.

• A47 Eye, Hodney Roundabout: Resurfacing and road sign installation

Work to resurface, re-line and replace road signs will take place on the roundabout and A47 carriageway between Monday January 22 and Friday January 26 between 8pm and 6am.

A full road closure of the A47 will be in place between A16/A47 Eye Road roundabout and Crowland Road/A47 roundabout.

A full road closure will also be in place on the A1139 carriageway Peterborough Road/A1139 roundabout and Hodney Road/White Post Road junction.

• A120 Hare Green roundabout, Harwich Road: Safety improvements

Drainage work begins this week. There will be traffic management on site but this will have no impact on any road users.

• A120 Essex: Vegetation clearance

Work to improve journeys by clearing vegetation along the A120 verges east and westbound between Braintree and Harwich continues.

Temporary traffic signals will be in place past the section being worked on overnight, between 8pm and 6am.

• A120 Marks Tey, Essex: Bridge joint replacement

Work to improve journeys by replacing bridge deck movement joints continues this week.

The bridge carrying the A120 over the A12 will be closed on weeknights between 8pm and 6am until January 24.

A fully signed diversion route will be in place via the next A12 junctions 24 or 26.
