CONFERENCE Premier Division club Histon have appointed former coach John Beck as their new manager at the Glass World Stadium.

Beck previously worked alongside ex-Stutes’ boss Steve Fallon during the club’s rise to the highest tier of the non league game but admitted he faces a major re-building job at the cash-strapped outfit.

“We’ve got a mammoth task,” said the former Cambridge United manager. “My main remit is to keep the club in this league. We will have the smallest budget in the league and we’ve had a mass exodus of players and we will be climbing Mount Everest to get anywhere near where we were in the past.”

Beck originally joined Histon in August 2004 and was an important member of Fallon’s backroom team which plotted the Stutes rise to the Blue Square Premier before leaving in September as part of cost-cutting measures.

“It’s fantastic to be back,” he said. “The few months I was out of football were, to be quite honest, horrible. I’m a football man and have got it in my blood. I’ve got Histon in my blood and I consider myself to be a local now even though I’m from north London.”
