Hollesley Bay: Guard in hospital after prison incident

A PRISON officer who was due to receive an award for long service yesterday was attacked by an inmate as he started his shift, receiving head injuries and a broken ankle.

An investigation has been launched after prison worker Stephen Fry was seriously assaulted at Hollesley Bay Prison HMP yesterday morning. Police were called at 7.30am after reports that a prison officer had been knocked unconscious.

Mr Fry is currently receiving treatment at Ipswich Hospital.

Last night Suffolk police said a named suspect had been transferred to Norwich Prison.
