“Disgusting” racist graffiti left on road signs in a Suffolk village has left its residents “shocked and extremely angry”.

Suffolk police are now investigating the incidents in Hollesley, near Woodbridge, which took place sometime between Monday and Tuesday.

A temporary road sign on the road to Shingle Street was also targeted.

Hollesley Parish Council said it was "shocked and extremely angry" that four road signs, in the School Lane and Shingle Street Road area, were daubed with graffiti.

A spokesman for the council said: "It's really disgusting.

"It's really strange that the same words were on the same signs three years ago.

"We have nothing like this in the village, no graffiti problems - not even at the recreation grounds.

"Not only is there no graffiti, we just don't have racism in the village.

"Everyone is very welcome in Hollesley, it's a very welcoming place."

A spokesman for Suffolk Constabulary said: "Police are reminding members of the public that this mindless vandalism is unacceptable and are urging people to report any issues to police to enable us to take action against those committing anti-social behaviour or other criminal activity."

The graffiti has since been removed by residents.
