Engineers worked through the night to restore power to households across Suffolk and north Essex after the region was battered by winds of over 70mph.
More than 13,000 homes were hit by power cuts yesterday as gales brought down power lines.
UK Power Networks teams tried their best to tackle the problem but residents in several towns and villages – including Elmsett, Hadleigh, Martlesham, Halstead and Bures – are still affected this morning.
In an update this morning, power bosses said: “Our engineers have restored power to the majority of the properties affected yesterday, when winds of over 70mph damaged trees and overhead power lines in the East of England.
“We have additional engineers working this morning to restore remaining power supplies as quickly and safely as possible.”
They urged people to steer clear of power lines – and encouraged anyone who spots a damaged line to call 105 and report it.
