A Suffolk driver make a lucky escape when they veered off the road on the A14 - but the signpost they hit was not so fortunate.

A white Honda Civic left the A14 westbound beween Claydon and Needham Market late on Thursday September 27 and hit a pole holding up a large roadside sign.

The car smashed through the post and bent it at its base, leaving the driver unscathed and the car with minor damage.

While these large metal posts may appear strong, they are also designed to crumple if hit at speed to protect motorists.

The Norfolk and Suffolk Roads and Armed Policing team tweeted: “This driver has a lucky escape tonight after colliding with a sign post on the A14 at Claydon which was thankfully designed to collapse.”
