A former British Army chief was guest speaker when a congregation met to remember the sacrifices men and women made during the First and Second World Wars.

General, Lord Richard Dannatt, former chief of the general staff, attended the service organised by the Stradbroke and District Branch of the Royal British Legion at Horham Baptist Church on Sunday.

The around 200-strong congregation was requested to bring a Christmas gift for a partner of the service men and women based at Wattisham Airfield.

A collection at the carol service event raised more than £500 for the Legion’s Poppy Appeal.
